When was the last time the city was a part of a revolution? When was the last time ‘we’ stood up for a cause ? It was the 18th of February, Sunday, the grounds of Balewadi Stadium witnessed a marathon where runners enthusiastically took part in a 3 km, 5km, 10km and 21 km long run segments starting from the stadium to Baner and back to the stadium.
Sir Milkha Singh, also commonly and proudly known as the Flying Sikh of India, stood strong and mighty as the guest of honour for the event. His persona and valour were a reflection of his hardwork, dedication and commitment towards the development and nourishment of athletes and their holistic growth in the domain.
That being said, he also happened to throw a great deal of light on the current scenario surrounding Indian athletes and their march towards the next Olympic games and the needed pattern to make the nation proud in the international arena.
On an a very realistic note Sir Milkha Singh commented and laid current emphasis on the current state of affairs ” Drugs and all kind of dope are major deterrents in athletics, the various authorities and parties involved in the the promotion of such substances must be dealt with strict action”.
The Red Marathon organised by HK Events and proudly supported by the nation’s first Ecotel, The Orchid Hotel, Balewadi. The event stood firm on its objective and bond with the Chaitanya Mahila Mandal and also the the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao vision.The event also hosted a set of Zumba and bhangra performance which added a zing to the event.
