June 2018: Southindies is hosting ‘Chettinad – the spice of Life’, the Chettinad Food Festival from 15th June to 30th June 2018 this festive season.
The Chettinad food festival is not only focussing on the flavours of Karaikudi, but is providing a complete experience of a Chettiar meal, from starters to dessert.
In south India, there is a saying that one is lucky to eat like a Chettiar. Chettiar food is a feast for the gourmet, with a generous dose of pepper which makes it spicy but not hot. The spicing is subtle and its secret is the “Instinctive hand” of the “Achi” dumping a handful of this and a pinch of that in the masala leading the tastebuds on a journey of intrigue and delight.
Chettiar hospitality is legendary. A Stranger is welcomed, a guest is fussed over and any occasion is a reason for a feast. It is this lavish everyday spreads that has made Chettinad a culinary experience in its own right across the world. From 10 unlimited starters to a never ending buffet with all Chettinad specialities, the festival is meant to mesmerise your tastbuds.
The live starter bar, the lavish buffet and the dessert counter will take you through a culinary journey of South India and will leave you asking for more.
