Spread the love

May 2020: Being grateful doesn’t imply you’ve got your rose-coloured glasses permanently on. Nor does it mean that everything is necessarily wonderful, it simply indicates that you’re aware of your blessings, appreciate the small things and acknowledges all that you do have.

Being grateful shifts the lens from what is lacking or not ideal to what is already present and good.  A lot of the time we tend to take for granted everything that’s actually great in our lives and instead dwell on what we perceive is wrong, what we don’t have or what we don’t like.

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognising and appreciating what we do have.”

Your brain is a powerful tool, and training it towards gratitude is all part of ensuring that the gratitude comes more easily as you practice, so what are you waiting for?

Here are 8 ways how you can practice how to have more Gratitude everyday.

Gratitude doesn’t have to be saved for the “big” things in life. The habit of being grateful starts with appreciating every good thing in life and recognising that there is nothing too small for you to be thankful for. Let’s not take the little things in life, for granted.

Gratitude is not only about being thankful for positive experiences. Infact, sometimes thinking about negative or difficult situations can help to really nail down what you have to be thankful for.

A happy life is not a life that is free of negativity and irritation, a happy life is a life where negativity and irritation are not fed and strengthened rather they are graciously acknowledged and humbly accepted: “You can’t stop the triggering of unhappy memories, negative self-talk and judgmental ways of thinking, but what you can stop is what happens next. You can stop the vicious circle from feeding off itself and triggering the next spiral of negative thoughts” Gratitude allows us to notice the many blessings we have and distracts us from the many misfortunes that we face. Mindfulness helps us react to our misfortunes with grace, acceptance, and meditation. Together these two practices nurture the happier self within us.

A gratitude journal is, quite simply, a tool to keep track of the good things in life. No matter how difficult and defeating life can sometimes feel, there is always something to feel grateful for.💛 • • “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy

Helping others is an important element in increasing happiness. For one thing, their gratitude for your help is contagious! Sympathetic joy : the ability to rejoice in the good fortune and happiness of others, is an ability worth practicing. And for another thing, there’s a karmic connection to kindness: if you help someone now, they might help you later. And you’ll be so happy for it!💛💛

Sometimes it’s not enough to simply keep your gratitude to yourself. You can increase your feelings of gratitude by expressing that same gratitude to the people you care about.💛 Let people know they matter, lets spread love and light wherever we go. This world needs more love 💛

Being grateful can make you happy, but being happy can also make you grateful. There are plenty of other ways to get your mood up, including exercising or participating in a hobby you enjoy or merely just spending some quality time with your own self. Once you are feeling the endorphins flow, showing gratitude will become even easier and you’ll start to be able to make list after list of all of the things in your life you’re thankful for.
