Pune, June 25, 2020: Former Indian cricketers and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) celebrated the 35th anniversary of India’s global victory of the world cup against West Indies on June 25, 1983. India won by 43 runs against the team on the famous Lord’s 35 years ago. This was the first-ever victory of India in any World Cup match.
This victory was a surprise for all as India defeated the two times champion West Indies and created a new history in the sports domain. Former cricketer Kapil Dev and the team won the hearts of millions of the Indians by conquering this World Cup. The cricketers took to social media as a medium to mark this special day.
Virender Sehwag posted a picture of Kapil Dev on twitter who is holding the trophy and quoted that the picture and the triumph will remain in the memory of every Indian cricket fan which changed the face of Indian cricket. Many other cricketers also posted on social media platforms marking this memorable day.
The 1983 World Cup Championship was a turning point for Indian cricket team as it broke the obstacle and was a motivating factor for the team to achieve success.
