The Railway Board on Thursday made an announcement saying all regular passenger trains including mail, express and suburban trains to be cancelled till 12.08.2020 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country. The ticket booking facility of these trains has also been cancelled from July 1 till the said date. Passengers who booked seats will get the entire amount refunded by the railway board. However, special trains like Rajdhani and other mail and express trains will continue to operate.

Special suburban train services which started recently in Mumbai to ferry for essential services providers will remain in operation as per officials. This decision was taken keeping in mind the increasing number of coronavirus cases.

All train services were cancelled in March due to the pandemic but on May 16 few passenger services trains resumed in the country.

After a total lockdown of nearly two months, the Indian Railways had to start its services in a limited way on May 12. In Phase 2 of the lockdown, the Railways started 100 more train services across the nation including Jan Shatabdi, Duronto and a number of mail and express trains.
