Pune, July 8, 2020: Visitors entering Pune through the Bapdev Ghat and Katraj section witness some piles of garbage lying on the sides of the road. Nearby residents claim that it is due to the dumping of trash from the surrounding villages and panchayats.

A resident of a nearby surrounding area said that there was no trash in the old Katraj ghat section but after relaxing some COVID restrictions, piles of garbage can be seen. This creates a bad impression on the people who are entering the city from that area. It needs to be cleaned with immediate effect as it gives a foul smell and can also spread diseases.

Dnyaneshwar Molak, Head of Solid Waste Management of PMC said that both the areas surrounding the ghat sections do not come under the PMC jurisdiction. The piling up of trash is bad news as both the spots serves as an entry point to the city. A letter will be written to Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune Zilla Parishad to clean up the garbage soon.
