SBI Capital Markets Ltd and Habitat India Set Up Habitat Care Centers In Pune Hospitals

Pune, 6th October 2020: SBI Capital Markets Ltd and Habitat for Humanity India in collaboration with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is setting up four Habitat Care Centres in hospitals in Pune. The initiative is part of Habitat India’s effort to strengthen the existing public healthcare delivery mechanism. The four Habitat Care Centres will have a total of 125 beds.

Sant Dnyaneshwar Hospital (Nigdi), Lokmanya Hospital (Chinchwad), Sterling Hospital (Nigdi), and Star Hospital (Akurdi) in Pune will house these facilities. The care centres aim to scale the pace of recoveries by utilizing existing infrastructure such as Anganwadi centres, sub-centres, government or community-owned centres and other private hospitals.

“Habitat Care Centres are an effort to support the local government bodies in strengthening the existing healthcare infrastructure. We are grateful to SBI Capital Markets Ltd and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for joining hands with us. Habitat for Humanity firmly believes that a healthy home is a vaccine that provides both immunity and resilience and since the past 37 years we have been helping families across India build homes,” said Mr Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India.

“In these trying times, it is essential that people continue to benefit from advanced and affordable healthcare services. The Habitat Care Centres will ensure that people from all strata of society continue to have access to quality care. We want to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Pune and these care centres will serve as an important tool to isolate people, especially those who are not able to follow physical distancing norms in their homes,” said Smt. Ushatai Dhore, Mayor, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Pune.    

As on 1st October 2020, Habitat for Humanity India has served over 9,77,769 people from 19 states by providing them with hygiene kits, family essential kits, conditional cash transfers, behaviour change communication training and by setting up COVID-19 Habitat Care Centres. Nine Habitat Care Centres equipped with 1375 beds have been set up to date including the facility in Pune, Mumbai, New Delhi, Karnataka and Kerala.
