The BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal on Tuesday announced an alert for Mumbai due to overnight heavy rainfall which is likely to cause flood in the city. A measurement by the weather department says that 230 mn of rainfall took place over a span of 10 hours which has increased the water level of Mithi river.
Vehicle movement has been affected due to water logging in the streets. Suburban trains have been stopped due to water in railway tracks.
The state government declared a holiday for all the offices providing essential services due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai city. Citizens have been asked to stay indoors.
